Red Quinua Real grain has a more intense flavour than the others and a crunchy texture, so it can be used as a gluten-free base for vegetable paella or to give flavour and colour to salads. As a cooking ingredient, it is extremely versatile and easy to cook. As with rice, simply rinse, drain and transfer to a pot. Add two parts water to one part grain and salt to taste. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 12 – 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
Grown solely in the areas around the Uyuni and Coipasa salt flats of Bolivia’s Southern Altiplano plateau, Quinua Real’s Royal Quinoa is the most highly sought-after variety of this ancient grain. Rich in fibre, proteins and amino acids, it also contains potassium, iron, zinc and various B vitamins. A Fair Trade product, it is produced by ANAPQUI (The National Association of Quinua Producers): a non-profit organization that invests the profits from exporting its products into the improvement of living conditions for farmers and the local community.
