Finger millet is a seeded annual cereal which belongs to the grass family, Poaceae. The height of a mature plant ranges from 30-150 cm in the cool, high-altitude regions of Africa and Asia, where it is grown for its seeds.
Finger millets also known as ragi contains important amino acids—isoleucine, leucine, methionine and phenyl alanine which are not present in other starchy meals. It has the highest amount of calcium and potassium. Ragi is a great source of iron making it beneficial for individuals with low haemoglobin levels. It is good for the stomach and for good digestion. It is also gluten-free.
Various types of porridge and alcoholic beverages are also prepared from the seeds, as finger millet has excellent malting qualities.
Store in cool and dry place. Avoid direct sunlight.
